Spotify says Merlin, which represents more than 30,000 independent labels and distributors, has joined Universal Music Group in supporting its upcoming AI-powered remix and covers product. The paid tool will allow fans to generate AI covers and remixes of participating artists’ music. Spotify says the system will require artists to opt in, receive credit, and be compensated, although the company has not yet disclosed the product’s launch date, pricing, technical architecture, or detailed royalty mechanism.
