Google has reportedly notified Android users that Google Assistant will begin shutting down on September 4, 2026, with migration continuing over several weeks. Eligible phones and tablets will switch to Gemini as the default assistant, meaning both “Hey Google” and the power-button shortcut will launch Gemini. Compatible paired devices, including Wear OS watches and supported headphones or earbuds, may migrate as well. Devices that do not meet Gemini’s minimum requirements, or are in unsupported regions, may retain Google Assistant temporarily.
