Cloudflare announced the private beta of WriteGuard, a control layer for MCP servers focused on making write actions safer and more governable. Its motivating scenario involves background agents accidentally closing thousands of tickets while acting under the same user identity as legitimate human work. Because agent sessions and manual actions can appear identical in system records and network logs, incident response becomes difficult: operators must identify the responsible session, stop it, distinguish valid changes, and repair unintended state. The post frames fine-grained controls and better attribution as infrastructure requirements for agentic workflows.
