First seen · 8/5/2026, 06:21 PMLatest activity · 8/5/2026, 06:21 PM

According to IT Home, citing reports from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Axios, Bloomberg and others, the U.S. government said in a closed-door meeting with leading AI companies that its frontier-model cybersecurity review mechanism, announced in June, currently applies only to closed models with advanced capabilities and national-security risks. Companies may voluntarily submit pre-release models for a review of up to 30 days by multiple U.S. government agencies. Employees would reportedly lose access during the review. Open-weight models are not currently included.
