Volition Elicitation: Operational Semantics for People and Their Machines

First seen · 7/10/2026, 10:43 PMLatest activity · 7/10/2026, 10:43 PM

The paper introduces volition-guarded GLP (vGLP), a programming language whose operational semantics treats a person and their personal machine as one agent. Transactions may depend on both machine state and the participant’s volition. The authors connect this design to Volition-Guarded Multiagent Atomic Transactions and Communicating Volitional Agents, arguing that UI elements should elicit the person’s volition because reductions require the person to will them. They report demonstrations covering a grassroots social graph, a social network, and currencies, with vGLP programs and their implementation generated by AI and deployed as one working smartphone app.
