Ahead of the July 2 public-comment deadline, privacy advocates urged the US Federal Trade Commission to continue monitoring Elon Musk’s X and reject the platform’s request to end ongoing audits of its data practices. The FTC’s order followed a finding that a coding error at Twitter caused contact information submitted for two-factor authentication to be improperly shared for advertising targeting. The order requires costly independent audits and gives the agency authority to request compliance documents without seeking additional legal action.
