BYD Executive He Zhiqi: China’s Mandatory L3/L4 Standard Will Clarify the Boundary Between Assistance and Automation

IT之家 reports that China’s first mandatory national standard covering safety requirements for L3 and L4 intelligent connected vehicle automated-driving systems, titled Intelligent Connected Vehicles—Safety Requirements for Automated Driving Systems (GB 44721—2026), is scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2027. BYD Executive Vice President He Zhiqi said the standard should clearly distinguish driver assistance from automated driving, tell users who is driving and when intervention is required, and define responsibility through official materials and in-vehicle interfaces. He argued that clearer rules protect both users and companies investing seriously in the technology.
