DLSS 5 Hybrid Precision Mod Yields Just 1–2% Render Time Drop on RTX 50 Series

First seen · 9/12/2026, 10:28 AMLatest activity · 9/12/2026, 10:28 AM

Community developers behind the OptiScaler project tested a hybrid FP8/NVFP4 precision path on Nvidia's DLSS 5 neural rendering model, aiming to leverage Blackwell's native 4-bit Tensor Cores. Benchmark runs in Baldur's Gate 3 at 4K resolution yielded marginal improvements: neural rendering execution time dropped by only 1% to 2%, moving framerates from 54.57 to 55.16 FPS. Because unsupported tensor shapes still revert to FP8, naive low-precision quantization alone currently offers limited relief for the architecture's heavy inference overhead.
