Genkit Introduces Agents API for Full-Stack Agentic Apps

First seen · 8/6/2026, 08:01 AMLatest activity · 8/6/2026, 08:01 AM

Google’s open-source Genkit framework has introduced a preview Agents API that combines message history, tool-execution loops, and streaming behind one interface. A unified wire protocol connects agent backends with frontend clients, while state can be managed on either side. According to Google, this flexibility enables branched histories, detached long-running tasks, and multi-agent coordination. The API is currently available for TypeScript and Go and integrates with the Genkit Developer UI for testing, debugging, and inspecting agent snapshots without first building client code.
