Xiaomi Open-Sources HachimoDock: A 150 RMB DIY AI Desktop Companion
Original title:小米开源硬件 HachimoDock 亮相,150 元就能复刻万能 AI 桌宠
At noon on October 26, during the 2026 Guancha Conference, HachimoDock—an open-source AI hardware incubated by the Xiaomi Technical Committee’s Innovative Product Team—was unveiled. It is a desktop AI device that users can freely customize to their personal preferences. Its compact body integrates features such as a personalized desktop pet, voice-controlled PC Agents, smart home connectivity, and the creation of custom components.
According to the team, the self-build cost of the HachimoDock hardware is approximately 150 RMB. The team hopes to lower the barrier to entry for AI hardware, making it the first piece of AI hardware for the general public to get started with Vibe Coding and experience the joy of using natural language to "create" an all-purpose desktop companion.
The device’s capabilities extend beyond this: users can express their ideas to collaborate with the AI, instantly generating and running new components. Based on this open mechanism, it can function as a microphone for quick voice input, a mini-console with thousands of games, a small radio for listening to FM stations, a secondary desktop screen for monitoring AI task progress and PC status, or a central controller for smart homes—the possibilities are left for every user to create for themselves.
Users can interact directly with the desktop pet via voice. It translates user intent into various tasks dispatched to PC-side Agents like Codex or WorkBuddy, such as searching for information, organizing files, or writing code. Meanwhile, the HachimoDock screen synchronously displays task statuses—such as thinking, executing, or awaiting confirmation—and provides feedback on progress through the pet’s expressions, actions, brief prompts, and sound alerts. Important operations requiring authorization are still confirmed via the corresponding client.
HachimoDock’s voice controls also extend to home scenarios. By linking with Xiaomi Miloco, users can initiate home controls via voice. The small screen can also switch to a home control console, displaying device status, lighting controls, monitoring feeds, and more, allowing a single desktop device to serve as an interactive gateway for both PC Agents and smart homes.
Currently, HachimoDock has made its software source code public on GitHub, and provides a bill of materials (BOM), structural models, and assembly tutorials, allowing users to modify it according to their own ideas. "We hope to leave the space to define HachimoDock to every user, allowing more people to experience the joy of creating AI hardware at a low cost," said the head of the Xiaomi Technical Committee’s Innovative Product Team.
